Every year, the medieval market of Caravaca de la Cruz takes place during the first long weekend in December. From 11:00 AM to 9:00 PM without interruption, visitors are invited to immerse themselves in an atmosphere worthy of a journey back to the Middle Ages, recreating a truly historical ambiance.

This is a unique and special attraction, where over 200 artisans gather in one place, dressed in period costumes and presenting their stalls decorated in medieval style. The market draws thousands of visitors, both national and international, who find in this festive setting a fantastic opportunity to spend the day.

The products available at the fair are incredibly diverse, spanning various categories and specialties. Some examples include:

-Gastronomy and Food: Bakeries, cured meats, nougat, confectionery, cheesemaking, beekeeping, octopus delicacies, pickles, and vegetable preserves.
-Craftsmanship and Traditional Trades: Jarapa weaving, cabinet making, esparto grass work, stone carving, glass engraving, forging, leatherwork, ceramics, toy making, puppet crafting, and jewelry.
-Art and Creativity: Decorations and paintings, artistic painting, nativity scene painting, framing, papier-mâché, and woodwork.
-Personal and Natural Care: Aromatic plant distillation, must distillation, natural cosmetics, and homemade soap-making.
-Rural Production and Traditions: Silk worm farming and bird of prey shows.

One of the main attractions of this market is the chance to see artisans working live, demonstrating and explaining medieval techniques to the public. This makes it a particularly fascinating and educational plan for children. Additionally, there will be activities and entertainment groups offering various performances for the whole family, including storytelling, a medieval camp, and nighttime large-scale shows.

The market opens at 11:30 AM with a parade starting from Plaza de Paco Pim to Plaza del Arco, featuring performers, musicians, entertainment groups, and a variety of animals. Upon reaching Plaza del Arco, the market is officially inaugurated with an opening speech.

Throughout these days, itinerant theater performances take center stage, offering a myriad of shows in different genres, with titles such as "Dances of the Orient," "The Mischievous Elves," and "The Goddess in Flames: a fire show." You can consult the full program by downloading it here.

During the market, all the streets and squares of Caravaca de la Cruz are transformed into a medieval setting with banners, pennants, and flags, emphasizing the fair’s presence in the historic center of the city.

Beyond soaking up the atmosphere, the event provides an excellent opportunity to get a head start on Christmas shopping. Visitors can purchase unique, handmade items directly from the artisans, crafted with care and dedication.
